Mohammad: a maps story

In April 2024, Mohammad was like a bird with a broken wing, trying to fly against the wind, trapped in a cage of severe persecution. After encountering the Lord at an Orthodox church, Mohammad experienced inhumane abuse from his strict Muslim brother in East Africa. His hands were tied, and he was placed on the roof. He was starved. He was harshly beaten, resulting in a broken jaw. Then, he cried out to the Lord for help. Jesus met him on the roof, causing his small crust of bread and cup of water to not run out for 30 minutes. He ate well and was filled with a supernatural radiance that terrified his brother into releasing him. He had been freed from his cage, but he still couldn’t soar.

In need of healing and a community, Mohammad was searching for a spiritual flock. Still dealing with physical pain, he was also carrying mental and emotional torment. Every time he tried to share the Gospel, fear and pain filled his head and kept him from preaching. He desperately needed healing and hope to continue following the Jesus he had suffered so much for.

He stumbled into MAPS Global’s 50 Hours prayer meeting. For the first time in his life, he was surrounded by a community of believers who had the freedom he was searching for. A MAPS Missionary prayed for healing and deliverance.

As Mohammad received prayer, his jaw went back into place and the fear lifted off of him. The pain from his oppressive persecution was completely removed. He felt like he could soar. Newly emboldened, he testified of his freedom and shared the Gospel as he had so longed to do. The 50 Hours prayer meeting had been a healing sanctuary for Mohammad. This once caged bird could now fly.
