Miriam’s Miracle

It was the spring of 2024 in the Levant. A fire of hope was turning to ashes. Miriam, a local believer at the end of herself, and facing her nearing death, reached out to a local church. It was a last cry for comfort and support. She thought of her son and grandchildren who would soon lose her to the cancer spreading in her neck. Like someone gathering the wood to build their own coffin, Miriam was preparing for the end. She had a four centimeter cancerous tumor growing in her right thyroid, and often she would awaken coughing up blood in the night. The tumor had also stolen her ability to hear in her right ear. She hoped that the local church could help her and comfort her family.

After Miriam reached out, a MAPS Global missionary visited her in her home and prayed with her, reading Isaiah 61 over her. Tears streamed down Miriam's face as the words pierced her heart and lit a small flame, once again, in her spirit. “Beauty for ashes. Strength for fear. Gladness for mourning. Peace for despair…” The prayer of healing was like oxygen. The flame of life was weak, but it was beginning to flicker.

Week after week, as the summer wore on, the missionary continued to visit her and pray for her healing in Jesus’ name. As that flame of life grew from a flicker to a flare, Marie began to hear again. Then the bleeding stopped. As the summer waned, Miriam’s flame became a roaring fire. The doctor’s report came back that she was cancer free. She picked up the pieces of despair that had weighed her down and cast them into the fire of life. Thanks to the MAPS missionary’s faithful prayers, she can now build a legacy for her grandchildren and generations to come. Miriam knows it was Jesus who healed her, and she gives Him the glory for taking her life from almost snuffed out to burning with hope.
